Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after March of that year.

The win also means the Russian has secured 21 championships at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour title, took control to force a third set.

He rescued 4 early opportunities in a close third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
