The Gaming Giant Recruits Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Change Follows Poor Response

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure updated employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the need for a clearer direction.

Ismailer noted that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement follows a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the complete text from the president's communication:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was revealing. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to mind and overhauled the title with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our audience.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, Ben starts with us on next week.

Ben’s management and background in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having dedicated the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most popular series in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in receiving Ben soon. We are all excited to persist seeing the development of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.

The President

Experience of the Incoming Leader

The appointee presently holds the position of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at other industry leaders.

Title Details and Concept

The upcoming game was announced in last year alongside a public demo. Then, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative evolution on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch states. "Take on the competition with unique powers, risks, and challenges that evolve every match. Will you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, put it on the line, and trust your team can secure victory? The option is up to you."

Project Ethos lacks an official release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can anticipate additional details as production continues.
