Vehicles in Germany's Town Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Authorities reported they were contacted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.

An important representative said the incident rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
